Download the Desktop App

Get Abe for your operating system. The app runs in your system tray and is always ready when you need it.

Download the installer for Windows or macOS
Run the installer (no admin rights needed)

Configure Your Settings

Customize Abe to fit your workflow. Choose your hotkeys, microphone, and recording preferences.

Set your transcription hotkey (default: Ctrl+Shift+V)
Set your transform hotkey (default: Ctrl+Shift+T)
Select your preferred microphone
Configure custom transform prompt (optional)

Recording Modes & Features

Choose the workflow that works best for you. Abe adapts to how you like to work.

Push-to-Talk Mode

Hold your hotkey while speaking, release when done. The transcription appears instantly where your cursor is.

Best for quick thoughts and short dictation.

Toggle Mode

Press the hotkey once to start recording, press again to stop. Great for longer dictation sessions.

Best for paragraphs and extended content.

Voice Transform

Select text, hold the transform hotkey, speak your command (e.g., "make this more professional"), and release. The text transforms instantly.

Edit existing text with voice commands.

Custom Transform Prompts

Set a custom prompt in settings that gets included with every transformation. Great for consistent style, tone, or formatting rules.

Perfect for enforcing writing guidelines.

Audio Ducking

Automatically lowers other application volumes while you record, then restores them when you're done.

Reduce background noise for cleaner transcription.

Recording Overlay

A visual indicator shows when you're recording. Drag it anywhere on screen or disable it in settings.

Speak Clearly

Talk at a normal pace with clear pronunciation. You don't need to speak slowly - Whisper handles natural speech well.

Minimize Background Noise

Use a quality microphone and reduce ambient noise for the best results. Enable audio ducking to mute other apps.

Use Punctuation Commands

Say "period", "comma", "question mark", or "new paragraph" and Whisper will often recognize these as punctuation.

Review and Edit

While accuracy is high, always review important documents. You can quickly correct any errors as you go.

Build Muscle Memory

The more you use voice dictation, the more natural it becomes. Give yourself a few days to adjust.

Export Your History

Use the dashboard to export your transcription history as TXT, CSV, or JSON for record-keeping.

Troubleshooting

Hotkey not working

Make sure no other application is using the same hotkey. Try a different key combination in Settings.

Microphone not detected

Check that your microphone is properly connected and selected in Settings. Grant microphone permissions if prompted.

Poor transcription accuracy

Move closer to your microphone, reduce background noise, and speak clearly. Check your internet connection speed.

Text not pasting

Ensure the cursor is in an active text field before starting. Some applications may require you to click first.

App won't connect

Check your internet connection. If using a VPN or firewall, ensure it allows HTTPS connections to our servers.
